Knirsch Stefan, head of Audi's powertrain development leaves the company with immediate effect, according to an official statement.
Last week, the German media reported that Knirsch had knowledge of the use of the software of the device's defeat in diesel engines of 3.0 liters, despite having given promise under oath, according to surveys conducted by US law firm Jones Day.
"Dr. Stefan Knirsch, member of the Board of AUDI AG for Technical Development, resigned with immediate effect and leaves the company in agreement with the Supervisory Board," read official statement from Audi without providing more details.
Knirsch became responsible for the development Powertrain last January, succeeding Ulrich Hackenberg, who left after he was found associated with the development of the EA 189 engine that is in any tornado eye Dieselgate.
