After being questioned by US law firm Jones Day, insiders say that Audi chief executive Rupert Stadler had no prior knowledge of dieselgate.
It is also reported by Reuters an internal investigation commissioned by the Volkswagen Group was no evidence against either Stadler.
Although the parties concerned refuse to comment, it is believed that the VW Supervisory Board discussed the findings Friday.
Initially it was Stadler said Audi knew that manipulating emissions testing for its 3.0-liter TDI engine after becoming president of the company in 2007 and being named to nine board members direction of VW Group in 2010.
While Stadler can be out of hot water for the time being, the company itself is still recovering and facing the repercussions of the scandal. Last week, Audi has suspended Stefan Knirsch, its research and development boss. It is also reported that four engineers were suspended while Jones Day's investigations.
