The beautiful Lovechildren of Aston Martin and Zagato ,
recently, Aston Martin has unveiled the Vanquish Zagato and sweetened the deal still further with the revelation of the flying version. the first collaboration with Zagato Aston Martin took the form of the DB4 GT in 1960. A contemporary of the Ferrari 250 GT and the Jaguar E-Type, the DB4 GT Zagato ran in his time - but with limited success. His real accomplishment was in the form of its lines timeless all in curves, leaving widely regarded as one of the most beautiful automobiles ever created. It is surprising, then, that Aston was struggling to sell even the allotment of limited production of 25 cars. Only 19 were built, but decades later the six remaining examples were completed for clients who have learned to appreciate the original design of Zagato.
it would be decades before Aston Zagato join again and by the design of the 1980s, tastes had changed considerably. Aston had abandoned the classic designs of its first series of DB for the muscular form of the V8 models, and Zagato had spent more than wedge shape designs. When they got back together, the result was completely different from the DB4. All angular and clearly the era of Malaise, the V8 Zagato was powered by - you guessed it - a V8 engine, moving 5.3 litres. In total, 52 examples of the coupe were made, followed by another 37 convertibles V8 Volante Zagato of drop-down above.
one another 20 years passed before the two great powers are found, this time to convert the DB7 that have redefined the Aston once again. Six-cylinder in the first Aston Zagato to eight in the second, the third packed twelve - under the same form of 6.0 liters that the company still employs. In typical style, Zagato has given the DB7 an even more elegant shape, a shorter wheelbase. This time, 100 copies were made and were followed by another 99 roadsters built exclusively for the American market under the name DB - AR1.
Gaydon and Milan did not wait for their next Confluence, teaming back for the V12 Zagato. The model made its debut as a concept in 2009 and went into production in 2011, based on the Vantage, but with costs bodywork and this same engine 12 cylinder. 99 body in white have been manufactured by the body shop and completed by the manufacturer, this time giving the roadster versions that resulted from two previous collaborations.
Aston Martin celebrated its centennial in 2013, and his long-time partner Latin marked the occasion with a series of unique one-off measures. Zagato created a coupe based on the DBS and a convertible on the DB9, two stylistic after along the lines (although modernized) on the promotions of the 1980s instead of the original 1960s - and both sold to individuals. A client of course ended up feeling left out, however, the following year, they created a third example - this time based on the turn (which was placed briefly between the DB9 and DBS) and taking the form of a shooting brake, but following the theme of the design.
it was only a few years since the celebrations of the centenary of the Aston. But in a sign of the legendary status that acquired the company Zagato Aston, the two seized the opportunity to join forces again to turn the Vanquish, just as they had the DB4, V8, DB7 Vantage and DB9/DBS/corner before. Displayed during the elegance Villa d'Este Concorso, earlier this year, the Zagato Vanquish confirmed for production. Shortly after - a few days ago, the two presented a flying convertible version. As if the long history of their joint efforts have taught us something - and with gratitude for the Zagato signature double bubble roof - is that what looks good on the foundations of the Aston Martin with an Italian body seems even better as a cabriolet.
