Tesla to expand its range with an all-electric SUV by 2014

Recently, the guys Tesla have been busy developing the next Model S sedan and, along with Toyota the all-electric version of RAV4 compact SUV. But there's more, because according to a report by the Los Angeles Times, the automaker based in California, is also working on a small SUV of its own, now called Model X.

Scheduled to go on sale in 2014, the new crossover model is said to offer more cabin space compared to similar sized SUV with electric powertrain, which unlike an internal combustion engine and a conventional transmission, requires less space.

Tesla has not released other details, but it is quite possible that the Model X will follow the footsteps of Roadster model and S. This means customers can expect good handling characteristics, multiple battery pack options to meet specific needs for autonomy and a flexible interior. Last but not least, the SUV Tesla should also qualify for some kind of federal tax credit.
